Nestled between the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, the Nomatsigenga people live in remote villages with limited access to medical care—and even less access to the gospel. This summer, you can step into that gap.

The Nomatsigenga are an Indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon. They live primarily in the Junín and Cusco regions, particularly in the rainforests along the Tambo, Ene, and Pangoa rivers. Their population is estimated to be between 5,000 and 10,000.
The Nomatsigenga people have a rich linguistic and cultural heritage. They primarily speak Nomatsigenga, part of the Arawakan language family, though many also communicate in Spanish. Their traditions include oral storytelling, which preserves their history and values, as well as traditional healing practices rooted in their deep knowledge of the jungle’s medicinal plants. Their way of life revolves around subsistence agriculture, cultivating staple crops such as cassava, plantains, and maize while also relying on hunting and fishing. In some areas, coffee and cacao production have provided additional sources of income. Socially, they live in small, kinship-based villages with leadership structures that are largely informal, relying on the wisdom of respected elders.
From a mission perspective, the Nomatsigenga face significant spiritual and social challenges. Syncretism is common, as many blend traditional animistic beliefs—including spirit worship and shamanistic practices—with elements of Christianity, making discipleship complex. While portions of the Bible have been translated into Nomatsigenga, deeper biblical literacy is still needed to strengthen faith foundations. Additionally, modernization has brought both opportunities and difficulties, with increased contact with urban society leading to cultural erosion, alcoholism, and family instability. Many Indigenous churches struggle to sustain themselves due to a lack of trained leaders, as few local believers have access to theological education or pastoral mentoring. Addressing these challenges requires a sensitive, long-term approach that honors their culture while fostering strong, biblically grounded discipleship.

Our team will focus on the continuation of construction on a functional, durable space where translators can work to make Scripture accessible to the Nomatsigenga community in their own language. This project not only supports the spiritual growth of an entire region but also equips indigenous leaders to make disciples who make disciples.
This team will also host medical clinics in Nomatsigenga communities across the mountains. These clinics open doors that might otherwise remain closed—building trust, meeting tangible needs, and creating sacred moments to pray for, listen to, and share the gospel with families who have never encountered it before. Through physical care, we’ll help pave the way for lasting spiritual transformation. This medical team will provide outpatient medical and dental care, medications, eyeglasses and minor procedures, and community health education.
Whether mixing concrete, hammering nails, or praying alongside translators and patients, every effort will bring us closer to fulfilling the Great Commission—delivering the Word of God to those who have never heard it.

Lodging at the base will be in dormitory style bunk houses with clean water and shower facilities. You will stay at the mission base in Chuquibambilla in bunk house style housing (think bunk beds, shared bathrooms, separate male and female sections). The facilities ensure a safe and welcoming environment, allowing you to focus on ministry and connection.
The team will fly to Lima and overnight there. Then we will travel within Peru by overnight bus to the Mission Base Antioquia where we will base. This overnight bus ride will be a very comfortable laydown seat allowing you to sleep comfortably while you travel. The bus will travel high in the Andes Mountains before descending back down toward Chuquibambilla. Each day the trip to the remote villages will be in four wheel drive trucks to allow us to haul our supplies and manage the remote roads in the region.
There is a dining hall where our meals will be provided. Meals are a mix of local cuisine as well as more internationally familiar dishes. We do our best to help you eat like a Peruvian, realizing that mission trips can stretch your pallet. We do try to accommodate allergies and are always ensuring our partners and their staff are meeting high standards for the health and well being of our team.
At Go InterNational, participant safety is our top priority. Our internal team and external consultants use a multi-layered risk management approach, including monitoring global reports and collaborating with ministry partners on the ground. We enforce safety protocols, such as requiring students to be with an adult, while our hosts provide location-specific guidelines. Our team leaders have been trained in risk management principles and have both on-field and home-office support to ensure a secure experience.

$250 Trip Deposit – A $250 fee is required to reserve your spot, which goes toward the overall cost of the trip.
Payment Schedule:
- 1/3 of the trip cost is due 3 months before departure
- 2/3 of the trip cost is due 2 months before departure
- Final payment is due 1 month before departure
Our team will provide support and guidance throughout the fundraising and preparation process.
What’s included?
Reaching the unreached often means going where there are no paved roads, hotels, or easy systems. Your trip cost is an all-inclusive investment in the mission. It covers everything from your travel insurance and housing to the project materials (like Bibles, medicine, etc.) and the local experts (translators, doctors, construction foremen, etc.) who make our work possible. We don’t just visit; we show up fully prepared to meet the needs of the community.

Your team will be led by Matt Harney and Jack Scobie.
Matt is a medical mission leader with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry and a heart for missions and discipleship.
As a retired construction supervisor, Jack has dedicated his time and skills to missions, having participated in 80 mission trips around the world.
Matt and Jack will accompany your group throughout the trip, facilitating ministry activities, coordinating logistics, and providing spiritual encouragement.
They will be available for:
