Our Integral Disciple Making Students in Guatemala

What is an Integral Disciple? And Integral Disciple is someone who submits to Jesus as the king of their life. An Integral Disciple loves God, loves others and makes disciples. An Integral Disciple is committed to growing in every area of life: physical, intellectual, social and spiritual and to teaching other to do the same.

Learning how to lead a Discovery Group

Larry Frick and Larry Montgomery traveled to Chiquimula, Guatemala to lead our Integral Disciple Making training for a group of 25 students under the direction of Jorge Camposeco.  Some who came were pastors and church leaders in three villages where Jorge ministers, while others were teachers at the school their ministry has to serve the children in the villages. The students learned about how to integrate the Great Commandment (Love God and Love Others) and The Great Commission (Make Disciples).  They learned how to reach out to their communities through Acts of Love and Seed Projects (small scale projects that show God’s love to the community) and how to lead Discovery Groups where they can help others learn the truths of God’s word and apply them to their lives.

One of the most powerful aspects of this approach to making disciples is that if focuses on obedience, not just knowledge.  A key part of a Discovery Group is when the participants are asked to make an “I will” statement. That is where they ask God to show them what they need to do in their life as a response to the truth of the scripture they have just studied.  So at the end of the week, we asked the participants to make their “I will” statements for the training.  Here are some of their statements:

“I will use this approach to teach my students in our school.”

“I will lead a discovery group for the youth in my church.”

“I will start a discovery group with the ladies in my neighborhood.”

“I will show love to the people in our village.”

“I will start a Discovery Group in our village.”

“I will make disciples on our village.”

Please continue to pray for those we trained as they implement the truths they have learned in this training. Thank you for your support that makes trainings like this possible around the world.
